Creative Date 3/21/10

Like most men, I'm neither sweet nor romantic. Valentine is not a day I acknowledge and treating Traci to a fancy restaurant has generally been an ice cream sundae at Dairy Queen. Nevertheless, I do believe that I sometimes can be a tad bit more thoughtful than the other male gender colleagues. With that being said, Traci and I have been married for over a year an a half so I'm about overdue for a special evening date... Erin, you might like this one.

The plan was simple... go out for dinner, then to the local cupcake shop and to make it extra special Traci would finally drive her 1948 Plymouth. Sounds simple except that there isn't a local cupcake shop and the Plymouth doesn't run. Since this created a problem, I decided to have a "Make Believe" date. Basically, pretend we're driving the car around town but to help our imagination, we would have a video projector with a video showing us going to our various destination. The video needed to be created first so I strapped down a video camera on the front of my Jeep and drove around town. We also don't have a garage so my friend Marlin not only let me borrow his garage but helped me move the Plymouth as well.

Since a garage isn't the most ideal place for a date, it took about two full days to clean and set everything up. But anyway, moving on with the actual date. As soon as we arrived to garage, we got in the Plymouth and headed to Walla Walla's most expensive restaurant, which so happened to be on the other side of the garage. My friend Janene did a phenomenal job at being a waitress and playing paparazzi through out the whole evening. The food was great and once we were done eating we drove off to Traci's cupcakes here in town. (Note: Traci's Cupcakes doesn't really exist, it's just the building where she would one day like to open a cupcake shop.) The shop had run out of everything except for carrot cake cupcakes and the 1 year anniversary cupcakes from the wedding that we forgot to eat 6 months ago. The wedding cupcakes didn't taste too great but the carrot cake cupcakes were delicious. We then drove back home and as we rode back a slide show began to play of Traci and I displaying images from when we first met to present day. The music that played in the background was a song that I wrote 5 years ago for Traci and the other was the song that Traci walked down the isle on our wedding. It was on that note that we concluded the date. I must point out that although we dressed up, we still wore our slippers because after all, we were in a garage.

Since Traci's parents were in town, we asked them to join us for a Charlie Chaplin film after the date, Janene and Steve joined us too. They sat in a 1970's MG, Traci's parents watch the movie in a 1923 Ford model T and we saw the movie from the Plymouth. It was a Home "Drive-in" Theater.

Thank you:
Marlin - Thanks so much for taking off half of the day to help me with the Plymouth, maybe you can figure out a way I can repay you, because I can't think of a way.
Janelle - Way to go above and beyond the call of the duty. Thanks for the video.
Janene - Thanks for helping in setting up, pretending to be a waitress and much more.
Darcia - The cupcakes were delicious.
Juanita - I know make believe isn't something you're too excited about, thanks for working at Traci's Cupcake.
Ellie - Thank you for acquiring a video projector.
Bryan - Thanks for letting me borrow a lens and flash.
Claud McDonald - Thanks for diagnosing what I have to do with the Plymouth to get it running.
