Honeymoon Day 1 (Sunday)

So whatever happened to the first day of our honeymoon? Well, surprisingly Traci and I didn't take any pictures, it's ridiculous given the fact that we carried 6 cameras, one of which was a Polaroid Camera. Anyhow, the only pictures that we had were those that Janelle (my highly reliable bestwoman) took.

The plan for Sunday was simple. Drive to Cottage Grove, Oregon, and sleep. Nevertheless, as it is the custom with Traci and I, we got distracted a couple times. Our first distraction was at Pendleton and visit Janene (Janelle's sister) where she was working at a animal rehabilitation center. We got to see several eagles, owls, hawks and squirrels. The squirrels were the best because they were just infants scrambling around at lightning speed. We also got to meet Stella, (we forgot what kind of bird she is, but you can look at the last picture) and she was able escape momentarily out of cage. Janene, however, show the patience of the saints trying to catch this bird with her bare hands.

Day 8 (Sunday)

Since Sunday was our final day, we didn't plan much and the goal was just to get home. We started our day with a healthy breakfast and a few laughs with our friends, Dorane and Robin. Before we left, we made a quick stop by IKEA to buy a few miscellaneous items. Through out the week, I had been carrying my wedding boutonniere in the back of my car since I had forgotten to give it to Janelle to drop it off at the house with the other wedding gifts. I am really surprise there is anything left of it after the many times we loaded and unloaded the Jeep.

Anyhow, One of the wedding gifts were two large bags of Cotton Candy (Thank you Betchtels'), Traci made sure to have her healthy dosage every morning when we got in the car. But anyway, Traci and I had talked about driving back from Portland on the Washington side of the river so we took this opportunity to do so. We began by taking the Historic Columbia River Highway from Troutdale to Hood River, where we stopped by Taco del Mar (it's a tradition). There at Hood River we crossed the bridge and travel along the Columbia River all the way to Umatilla. I did notice that the drive from Hood River to Umatilla is far more scenic on the Washington side. We made sure we stopped by the Maryhill Stonehenge located a couple miles north of the Bigg's Junction. This fullsize replica was completed in 1930 as memorial of the lives lost in WWI. Finally, it was with great sadness that we made our final "Honeymoon activity" as pulled over along the Washington and Oregon boarder for a quick picture.

Through out the day, Traci and I were filled with a nostalgic feeling as we looked back on the many adventures, sights, and fun times that were soon to end. Several days we felt like we had plan too much driving or activities, nevertheless, we both agree that it's not every day that we get to enjoy the Oregon Coast.

Day 7 (Saturday)

I'm not sure about many newly weds, but I'm pretty sure that there aren't many couples that would plan on visiting an elderly guy who owns several Hudson automobiles; a line of vehicles that haven't been in production for half a century. We met this guy "Chuck" back in the early summer at Tri Cities and we knew that we had to visit him and his collection of Hudson's, so what better time than during our honeymoon.

For our last two nights we stayed at "Dorane's Bed & Breakfast." It's not really a bed and breakfast open to the public, it's more like Janelle's (the bestwoman) aunt. We met her a couple years ago during a visit to Portland and now we see her more than Janelle does. (JANELLE, LET'S ME HALF WAY... HOW ABOUT PORTLAND?) The agenda for Saturday was to visit Chuck and his collection of Hudson's, celebrate our one week anniversary with a trip to Saint Cupcakes and play with Mac and Cheese, the two dogs that live where we were staying.

As we began our adventures we came across a car show, so we had to stop and take a look at the cars. There were several neat vehicles, including a fully restore Plymouth Special De Lux from 1941 and the Batmobile. When we arrived back to the Jeep from the Car show, I noticed it was leaking radiator coolant, so I took out the tool bag and got to working to fix the problem. As we left the car show, we stopped by the nearest gasoline station and to my amaze, a late 70's jeep honcho sportside pulled up. Let me tell you, these are highly rare jeeps, I'm surprise it wasn't in the car show. After visiting the Hudson guy and Saint Cupcakes, Traci and I made our way to the river front, opened a small bottle of Martinelli's and enjoyed our cupcakes to celebrate our one week anniversary.

Day 6 (Friday)

By Friday we began to realize that the good times will not be lasting too long. Through out the day Traci and I kept repeating the phrase, "At this time, a week ago..." or "We were running like crazy just a week ago." But anyhow, the plan for the day was to drive from Newport to Portland, and make few stops along the way, mainly visit the Evergreen Aviation Museum.

The shocks for the tailgate on my Jeep haven't been working for a while, so through out the trip Traci was in charge of holding up the door while I placed all of our luggage in the Jeep. Once we got back on the road, we decided to make one quick stop under the main bridge in Newport to take a few picture. The architecture and design of many bridges along the Oregon Coast are quite fascinating, so we had to take pictures. Once we left Newport, we made a few stops by Depot Bay (which claim to have the smallest Bay), D River (which claim to have the shortest river in the world) and a few antiques stores in Lincoln City.

We arrived at the Evergreen Aviation Museum in the early afternoon and looked around at the many relics the museum have obtained. The Spruce Goose took up the entire building and unfortunately we don't have any picture to prove it because of the setting I had the film camera in. Nevertheless, I do have proof that they had a WWII Jeep GPW... What an amazing sight.

Day 5 (Thursday)

Thursday was another great day. Since we were spending two nights at Newport, we had to pack various "hilarious good times" in one day. We started the day by visiting the Oregon Coast Aquarium and got to see the sea otters enjoy their breakfast of champions which included clams. The Sea lions put on a spectacular show as they swam in circles, and I've seen some pretty good shows. We got a chance to visit Ripley's Believe It or Not, it was quite amazing and I highly recommend everyone to visit that unique establishment.

Speaking of Sea Lions, we found that the best place to see them was along the Newport Bay Piers. Let me tell you, they are loud. In fact, we could hear them barking as slept in our yurt several miles away at 2:49 am. They are chubby, fatty, loud, grumpy and loud. And yet, it was the highlight of the day.

To end the day, Traci and I decided that we MUST play on the beach, so we made a visit the to the dollar store and purchased some non-quality buckets and shovels to make sand castles. The buckets didn't last more than 3 minutes.

Day 4 (Wednesday)

Wednesday was great. We were able to stay at the Driftwood Shores Resort, although it's not much of a resort. However it did have a pretty good hot tub. Since the resort is right on the beach, we decided to go out for a walk on the sand. Our 'newlyweds' sandals were great for comfort but didn't leave many "Just Married" tracks because of the hard wet sand around that area. The evening before, we stopped by a Fred Meyer and picked up a Canon Powershot camera for Traci. We figured we only get one honeymoon, so you might as well take pictures.

As soon as we left the resort, Traci and I had one destination in mind... Sand Dunes. It had been sprinkling the whole morning and we weren't sure if we wanted to be miserable in our adventures. Never the less, the rain let up and we seized the moment. Surprisingly, after spending an hour out on the dunes, the rain began to come down again as we left the park.

Our next stop for Wednesday was to visit the Sea Lion Caves. Unfortunately there weren't any sea lions in the cave, BUT! there were a lot of Asian tourists so we took a few pictures of that sight. The drive from Florence to Newport is definitely a pretty one. The road has curves every 10 feet and there are many bridges to take pictures of.
